In August 2022, Samantha Womack, a former EastEnders actress, disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis through an Instagram post while commemorating Olivia Newton-John’s passing. However, in a recent interview, she shared that the loss of her rescue dog, Lola, was even more devastating than her own health news.
Expressing her deep sorrow, Samantha revealed that Lola’s death on the same day as the Queen’s demise marked one of her toughest moments. This emotional event prompted her to relocate to Valencia, Spain, where she focused on her physical well-being following the tragic loss.
As an animal enthusiast, Samantha grieved Lola’s passing with a heartfelt tribute post that garnered immense sympathy and support. She currently resides in Valencia with a variety of animals, including elderly chihuahuas, a cavapoo, a Spanish greyhound, a Podenco, and a Yorkshire terrier.
Samantha recounted how she came to adopt her senior Yorkie, Otto, during a visit to a rescue center after the Spanish floods of 2024. Despite initial hesitations from her family, Otto, with his health challenges, has brought unexpected joy to Samantha’s household.
Aside from dogs, Samantha’s compassion extends to other creatures, such as a rescued muntjac deer and injured pigeons she sheltered in her BBC dressing room during her time on EastEnders. Her dedication to caring for animals remains a significant part of her life, offering comfort and companionship during challenging times.
