A female in her forties has passed away after sustaining a severe head injury in what is believed to be an assault outside a bar. Liam Moor, aged 19, has been accused of manslaughter following the incident involving Lisa Denton, aged 40, who was swiftly taken to the hospital in critical condition just after 10 pm on Saturday. The emergency response teams swiftly arrived at Charlie’s Bar on Russell Street, securing the area with a cordon and the establishment remaining closed.
Despite extensive medical efforts, Ms. Denton tragically succumbed shortly thereafter. Following the incident, the teenager was apprehended on suspicion of murder. Moor, residing at Telford Street in the East Howdon vicinity, is now facing a manslaughter charge and has been detained in custody for a court appearance at Bedlington Magistrates’ Court.
Additionally, a woman in her fifties was arrested on suspicion of aiding an offender and has been granted police bail pending further investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton, the Senior Investigating Officer, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of life. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to Lisa’s family during this challenging period, emphasizing ongoing support for them as they cope with the absence of Lisa.
Chief Inspector Atherton also urged the public to refrain from engaging in speculation, both online and within the community, and to show respect for the legal processes currently in motion.
