A suspect has been taken into custody following an incident where a 95-year-old woman was reportedly restrained and threatened during an attempted robbery.
Authorities responded to a call reporting a man visiting the victim’s residence in the Little Hulton area of Salford, Greater Manchester, around 11 am on Tuesday under the guise of inquiring about bin collection schedules. Subsequently, he gained entry into her home and allegedly carried out the assault.
The Greater Manchester Police stated that the suspect bound the woman’s hands and demanded money and her purse before fleeing upon the arrival of another acquaintance of the victim.
Law enforcement officials have apprehended an 80-year-old man in the Worsley region following the execution of an arrest warrant. He is being held on suspicion of attempted robbery and false imprisonment and is currently undergoing questioning.
Initially, the authorities indicated that the man had offered to clean the victim’s windows; however, it has now been clarified that his query was related to bin collection arrangements.
No physical injuries have been reported, and the police are providing ongoing support to the victim while assuring that there is no broader danger to the community.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Police mentioned that the suspect’s entry into the property was met with tying up the victim, demanding valuables, and subsequent escape upon interruption by a visitor familiar with the victim. Fortunately, no harm was inflicted, and the victim continues to receive assistance from law enforcement.
