A top jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was severely injured by a falling horse. Sonja Logan, in 2023, faced a violent attack by a group attempting to steal her car, resulting in a broken nose, cut lip, and three fractured front teeth just weeks before her wedding. The assailants fled when the alarm was raised, and they remain at large. Logan described the excruciating pain of being trapped under a half-ton racehorse as the most severe she has ever experienced.
Riding Jumping Power Two, trained by her husband Tommy, Logan was thrown off when the six-year-old horse was spooked. The horse landed on top of her, crushing her pelvis and causing intense pain. She was quickly attended to by medical personnel, who transferred her to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of her pelvic injuries.
After undergoing surgery that included the insertion of screws and a plate to stabilize her broken hip, Logan expressed gratitude for surviving the incident, acknowledging that the outcome could have been fatal had the horse landed on her ribs instead. She is currently recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame.
Despite the traumatic experience, Logan remains determined to return to racing, with a projected recovery timeline of six to eight months depending on her rehabilitation progress. Having faced previous challenges, including a carjacking incident, Logan overcame personal struggles by engaging in competitive bodybuilding and forming a strong support system to help her through this latest setback.
Reflecting on her resilience, Logan highlighted the importance of having a supportive network, particularly acknowledging her husband’s unwavering assistance during her recovery process.
