In a disturbing incident, a convicted sex offender, Jon Ruben, 76, showed a smirk as he was being apprehended for sexually assaulting children at a summer camp. Ruben was sentenced for drugging young boys by lacing sweets with tranquilizers to entice them into playing a deceptive “sweet game.”
The incidents occurred at a summer camp in Stathern Lodge, Leicestershire, where Ruben, from Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, also drugged his wife, Susan Ruben, with Temazepam to facilitate his abuse of the children. Leicestershire Police arrested Ruben after eight children were hospitalized due to symptoms like slurred speech.
Footage of the arrest captured Ruben’s nonchalant demeanor as he was taken into custody. He received a lengthy prison sentence of 23 years and 10 months for his abhorrent actions. Described by his wife as a “sadistic, monstrous pedophile,” Ruben used his Christian persona to prey on vulnerable children.
During the sentencing, Judge Timothy Spencer KC imposed a total sentence of 31 years and eight months on Ruben, who pleaded guilty to various charges including sexual assault, child cruelty, making indecent images of children, and drug offenses. Judge Spencer condemned Ruben’s actions as a calculated pursuit of sexual gratification through manipulation and preparation.
Parents of the victims issued a statement denouncing Ruben as a cunning child predator who betrayed their trust. They expressed outrage at the emotional and psychological harm inflicted on their children, condemning Ruben for robbing them of their innocence and security.
One mother, whose son was a victim of Ruben’s abuse, expressed a desire for his suffering, emphasizing the devastating impact on the children’s lives. The community echoed the sentiment of seeking justice for the affected children and holding Ruben accountable for his heinous crimes.
