A man viciously attacked his partner, causing her to escape their residence wearing only underwear. Jason Watson, a 26-year-old from Blackwood, assaulted his partner upon their return from a holiday in Turkey last year, leaving her with severe injuries, including a haemorrhage in her right eye.
During a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Watson had initially assaulted his partner while on vacation. Subsequently, he continued the violence at their home in Wales. The victim reported concerns about Watson’s alcohol consumption leading to violent behavior. The prosecutor mentioned that Watson physically assaulted and threatened the victim, preventing her from leaving.
After managing to flee in just her underwear, the victim was hospitalized with injuries to her head, eye, ear, neck, and a swollen face covered in blood. Police were called to the scene, where Watson resisted arrest aggressively, causing harm to an officer in the process.
Watson admitted guilt to assault charges and assaulting an emergency worker. He had a prior conviction for dangerous driving and was on parole during the recent offenses. His defense lawyer cited a troubled upbringing as a mitigating factor, emphasizing Watson’s desire to be a responsible parent.
Judge Paul Thomas KC condemned Watson’s actions, describing them as disgraceful and imposing a three-year and three-month prison sentence. Additionally, Watson received a restraining order for five years and a 12-month driving ban upon release.
