Telly fans are eagerly anticipating the 79th edition of the prestigious BAFTA Film Awards happening tonight at London’s Royal Festival Hall. The televised broadcast starts at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, while the actual ceremony commences at 5pm.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s thriller ‘One Battle After Another’ leads the nominations with 14 nods, including Best Film and Best Director. Following closely is Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ with 13 nominations, and both ‘Hamnet’ and ‘Marty Supreme’ with 11 nominations each. Jessie Buckley from ‘Hamnet’ is a top contender for Best Actress, with Timothée Chalamet from ‘Marty Supreme’ expected to win Best Actor.
The event will feature musical performances by Jessie Ware and the vocalists from KPop Demon Hunters (EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami).
Alan Cumming, a Scottish artist and The Traitors star, is hosting the ceremony for the first time, taking over from David Tennant. Viewers are thrilled about Cumming’s debut, expressing their admiration for him.
Dame Donna Langley, chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment, will receive the prestigious Fellowship Award, while Clare Binns of Picturehouse Cinemas will be honored with the Outstanding Contribution award.
Notable presenters for the evening include Cillian Murphy, Stormzy, and Paddington Bear.
