A disturbed individual, Deividas Skebas, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 25 years for fatally stabbing nine-year-old Lilia Valutyte in the heart while she played outside her mother’s shop in Boston, Lincolnshire. Skebas, who believed he was under the influence of NASA, expressed delusional beliefs that NASA could bring Lilia back to life if contacted.

During the trial, it was revealed that Skebas meticulously planned the murder, purchasing a knife days before the incident and waiting for a quiet moment to carry out the heinous act. Following the murder, Skebas attempted to evade authorities by shaving his beard, hiding the knife, and preparing to flee to Lithuania.

Prosecutors argued that the murder showed premeditation, emphasizing that Skebas knowingly committed a deliberate and wicked act. Despite his defense claiming his dangerousness is contingent on medication, Skebas was deemed a threat to both himself and others.

Lilia was remembered as a creative and vibrant child by her stepfather, who described her as having a beautiful soul and a strong personality. Her mother expressed profound grief, questioning why their family had to endure such a tragedy and stating that the trauma would never fully heal.

In sentencing, the judge lamented the loss of Lilia, describing her as a happy and lively girl whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence. Skebas will be eligible for release after serving over 21 years in custody, with the Parole Board tasked with determining his suitability for release or continued hospitalization.
