Bill Bailey revealed he is taking each day as it comes following a health warning he received. The renowned winner of Strictly Come Dancing embarked on a journey across Vietnam for a new series on Channel 4, visiting various locations such as Hanoi and Ha Long Bay.

This expedition, described as a mix of entertainment and emotion, uncovered more than just breathtaking landscapes. During a meeting with a spiritual fortune teller, the 61-year-old was cautioned about a potential issue with his small intestine.

Speaking about the revelation, he shared with The Metro, “I’m living day to day. At any point I could conk out. I have kept an eye on it. You think it’s all nonsense, but on the safe side I should probably check it out. It seems to be all right.” While in Vietnam, Bill also participated in the cultural custom of burning paper effigies, symbolic representations used to honor loved ones.

During this experience, Bill was surprised to come across paper replicas of a wireless radio, a cherished item of his late mother Madryn. Coincidentally, he realized it had been 20 years since her passing while in Hanoi.

“I couldn’t believe it when I found a paper radio because that was what my mum loved more than anything else,” he expressed. “Suddenly there was a confluence of circumstances.”

Additionally, the comedian took a moment to remember his late friend Sean Lock, who passed away in 2021 after battling cancer. Even five years later, Bill still feels a strong connection to him.

“I hear him talking, what he might say about something. It was a lovely and quite fun way to remember someone, which I think I’ll continue to do,” he added.

This recent health concern is not the first for Bill, who has previously faced hospitalizations due to asthma and required a nebulizer for treatment.

In a separate incident during a performance in Australia, Bill had to abruptly leave the stage due to an asthma attack, an event he described as a wake-up call. To prevent such situations, Bill, the son of a GP, now maintains regular medical check-ups and uses a steroid inhaler for symptom relief.

Reflecting on his past struggles, Bill mentioned, “Each time I went on stage, I literally had an inhaler perched next to the microphone, one by my guitar and another on the piano. I was so scared of not being able to breathe again.”
