“Dense Fog Causes Hazardous Conditions in East England”

Published on

Drivers are advised to be cautious this morning as dense fog is affecting various areas. Residents in different regions have woken up to foggy conditions, with the thickest fog observed in Norfolk and Suffolk in the East of England. This has led to reduced visibility, with some areas experiencing visibility of 100 meters or less, making road conditions hazardous.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Norfolk and Suffolk, stating that visibility may vary in the region. Fog and low cloud cover are expected to gradually dissipate throughout the morning, leading to improved visibility by mid-morning. By lunchtime, the sun is forecasted to clear the fog, making the afternoon particularly pleasant in the East and Southeast of England, with expected highs of 16C.

Despite the sunny outlook following the recent warm days, forecasters emphasize caution due to the foggy start. Drivers, especially in the East of England, should anticipate slower journeys, potential delays in transportation services, and challenging driving conditions, particularly on rural roads. An accident involving a lorry has already caused the closure of the westbound A14 in Suffolk due to a significant diesel spill.

Driving in fog can pose challenges, but the Met Office advises motorists to check road conditions, allocate extra travel time, and adjust plans accordingly to avoid delays. Ensuring proper functioning fog lights before departure is recommended. Additionally, travelers using bus, train, flight, or ferry services should stay updated on any disruptions and follow guidance from their respective travel providers.

The sunniest weather is expected in the Southeast of England, including areas like Greater London, Kent, and Surrey, where temperatures could reach 16C once the fog lifts. Rain is anticipated to move southeastwards on Thursday, with heavier showers expected in west and central Wales, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms.
