Ian Huntley, the infamous Soham double murderer, passed away at the age of 52 after being viciously attacked in HMP Frankland. Huntley, serving a life sentence for the killings of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, suffered severe head injuries in the assault. Prior to the attack, Huntley had expressed concerns for his safety in a letter to a woman he had been corresponding with since October 2025. In the letter, Huntley mentioned cutting ties with the woman to ensure her safety, hinting at potential threats he faced.

This was not the first time Huntley encountered violence behind bars. He had previously survived attempts on his life, including an incident in 2010 when he was slashed in the throat by another inmate. Huntley had also been scalded with boiling water in 2005 and had attempted suicide twice during his incarceration. Despite these challenges, Huntley made the decision to sever ties with the woman in the interest of her safety.

Just eight days after writing the letter, Huntley was attacked by fellow inmate Anthony Russell, who allegedly struck him multiple times with a weapon in the prison workshop. Russell reportedly exclaimed, “I’ve done it! I’ve killed him!” following the assault. The tragic incident marked the end of Huntley’s tumultuous life behind bars.
