A Nigerian man has been extradited to London and formally accused in connection with the 2018 killing of a 23-year-old trainee engineer.
Matthew Adebiyi, 25, was brought to London and immediately taken into custody for the fatal stabbing of Joshua Boadu, also known as SJ, which occurred on Linsey Street in Bermondsey, south east London on June 11, 2018.
Following the attack, Joshua sustained severe injuries to his chest, neck, and arm. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, he suffered a heart attack en route, leading to the decision to turn off his life support ten days later. Adebiyi was detained in custody and was scheduled to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on the same day.
Previously, two individuals were found guilty of Joshua’s murder. A 27-year-old and a 16-year-old from Southwark were sentenced at the Old Bailey in September 2019.
In response to the convictions in 2019, Joshua’s family issued a statement expressing the profound impact of his loss on their lives.
Joshua’s father, Frank, described him as a compassionate and promising individual who had a bright future ahead. The family was devastated by his untimely death and emphasized the need to put an end to the violence plaguing London’s streets.
Additionally, Joshua’s sister, Lady, called for an end to senseless knife crimes, highlighting the devastating consequences they bring. Friends of Joshua remembered him as a caring individual with a passion for house music and a beloved member of the community.
Tragically, Joshua was set to embark on a memorable trip to Canada with his family the day after the tragic incident.
