A man from the United Kingdom is facing severe criticism in the United States after a violent attack that resulted in the deaths of three individuals, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security.
Olaolukitan Adon Abel has become the focus of an intense immigration debate following demands by the Trump administration to explain how he was permitted to reside in the country. One of the victims was a federal government worker who was fatally shot and stabbed while out walking her dog. The 26-year-old suspect, hailing from London, was apprehended on Monday after a series of seemingly unprovoked assaults in DeKalb County, Atlanta.
The Department of Homeland Security branded Abel as a “MONSTER,” stating, “On Monday, Olaolukitan Adon Abel callously took the lives of three individuals, including DHS employee Lauren Bullis, who was ruthlessly shot and stabbed while walking her dog. Under President Trump’s leadership, we are unwavering in our commitment to eradicating individuals like this from our communities.”
Abel is now facing charges for multiple counts of murder, aggravated assault, and weapon offenses, although law enforcement has confirmed only two fatalities, with the third victim sustaining serious injuries.
Described as a repeat offender with a lengthy criminal past, Abel, who was born in Camden and has family in the U.S., was granted American citizenship in 2022 during the Biden administration, a decision that has drawn sharp criticism from the Trump administration.
Among those tragically killed was 40-year-old DHS employee Lauren Bullis. Eyewitness Tiffany Williams reported hearing multiple gunshots before discovering Bullis lying at the end of her driveway with the suspect nearby, who then fled the scene.
In addition to gunshot wounds, Bullis had also been stabbed. Her family remembered her as a cherished individual.
Homeland Secretary Markwayne Mullin confirmed Bullis’s identity and condemned the actions of Abel, highlighting the tragic impact on their department and expressing condolences to the victims’ families.
Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley confirmed that there appeared to be no connections between the victims, indicating that the attacks were random in nature.
Abel was located after authorities used license plate recognition to trace his silver Volkswagen Jetta. He is now facing a range of charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and weapon violations, with the possibility of additional charges as the investigation progresses.
The identities of the other victims and the motive behind the attacks remain undisclosed, with investigators providing no insight into the suspect’s selection of victims or locations.
Abel’s criminal past has come under scrutiny, revealing previous charges and convictions, including assault on a peace officer and sexual battery offenses.
Currently in custody, Abel’s case continues to be investigated, and a court appearance date has yet to be scheduled.
