Santiago de Compostela Airport in Spain has made an announcement to close its operations temporarily for maintenance work, resulting in the cancellation of all flights. The closure, scheduled from April 23 to May 27, is necessary for significant runway resurfacing projects.
The airport’s closure will impact numerous travelers, including Brits, as airlines like Vueling, Ryanair, Iberia, and British Airways, serving popular destinations such as Barcelona and Madrid, operate at this location. Approximately 4,500 British passengers, arriving on around 30 weekly flights from Stansted, Gatwick, and Heathrow, are expected to be affected by the shutdown.
Aena, the airport operator, clarified that no air traffic, takeoffs, or landings will occur during the maintenance period. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for flight status updates, schedule changes, or rebooking inquiries.
