“Wedding Day Black Paint Attack: Sister-in-Law Convicted”

Published on

A woman faced her sister-in-law in court after being convicted of splashing her with black paint on her wedding day just before she was about to marry her long-time partner. The motive behind Antonia Eastwood’s “vindictive” actions remains a puzzle to Gemma Monk, who tied the knot with Eastwood’s older brother, Ken. The 35-year-old bride was doused in black paint at Oakwood House Register Office in Maidstone in 2024, leaving guests shocked.

Eastwood, aged 49, was found guilty of two counts of criminal damage at Maidstone Crown Court recently, with Gemma recounting how she glared at Eastwood during the court proceedings. The damages and financial losses at Oakwood House were estimated to surpass £5,000, as per court records. Gemma expressed that Eastwood was determined to disrupt the wedding.

Despite the distressing incident, Gemma remained unwavering in her determination to marry her partner. She emphasized that no obstacle, not even black paint on her face, would have stopped her from walking down the aisle. Gemma ultimately exchanged vows with Ken on that eventful day, with the bride facing challenges including having to borrow a dress after the paint mishap.

The feud between Gemma and Eastwood escalated from a prior misunderstanding in 2023, leading to Eastwood and her spouse being excluded from Gemma and Ken’s wedding. The tension reached its peak on May 24, 2024, when the black paint episode unfolded at the wedding ceremony. Gemma shared in a statement that the incident had a profound emotional impact on her, causing her to question her own actions and identity.

The distressing ordeal took place during a period when Gemma was also dealing with a health scare. Despite Eastwood’s knowledge of Gemma’s health concerns, she proceeded with her disruptive actions, jeopardizing Gemma’s well-being on her special day. Additionally, Gemma and Ken had to cancel their honeymoon plans due to the fallout from the incident.

Reflecting on the wedding day, Gemma recalled sensing that something was amiss when she arrived with her father. The unexpected attack with black paint left her shocked and devastated, with the substance irreversibly staining her wedding attire. Gemma’s response to the situation included attempting to confront Eastwood before she evaded capture and later admitted to seeking revenge.

In court, Eastwood expressed remorse through a written letter and highlighted her struggles with depression amid the legal proceedings. The exact reasons behind Eastwood’s retaliatory actions remained undisclosed during the court hearing. The presiding judge urged all parties involved to move forward, opting to issue a suspended jail sentence to Eastwood along with community service.

Despite the trauma and disappointment caused by Eastwood’s actions, Gemma expressed her desire to move on from the incident. She revealed plans to renew her vows with Ken in an effort to overshadow the negative memories of their original wedding day. Gemma emphasized her commitment to rebuilding and celebrating their love despite the challenges they faced.
