“Former Football Star Tony Adams Shares Son’s Alcohol Struggle”

Published on

Tony Adams, the former football star who has been sober for 12 years, expressed his anguish at watching his son struggle with alcohol, a battle he knows all too well from his own past. Tony’s son, Oliver, aged 34, is currently in recovery, and Tony has shared his own struggles with alcoholism openly, including a 44-day binge that led to his recovery.

Despite his successful career with Arsenal and England, which included winning various titles, Tony faced personal challenges off the field, including a four-month jail term in 1990 due to a drink-driving incident. He recounted the dangerous situation that occurred during his intoxicated state, where he crashed into a lamppost and landed in someone’s living room.

In a heartfelt conversation with singer Matt Willis on the OnTheMend podcast, Tony revealed the guilt he carries for inadvertently exposing his son to the same struggles he faced. He recounted a poignant moment when Oliver reached out for help, acknowledging his own battle with addiction and seeking support from his father.
