“Infant Killed by Suspected Pocket Bully Dog”

Published on

A young girl tragically lost her life following an attack by a suspected pocket bully-type dog, and she has now been identified as Maggie May Ann Moody. The incident occurred in Redcar, North Yorkshire, on April 9, just a day shy of her three-month birthday, as revealed during an inquest.

The coroner, Paul Appleton, mentioned in a brief two-minute session that the preliminary cause of the infant’s passing was attributed to a “head injury.” Maggie was declared deceased at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, and her grandmother, Michelle Scott, confirmed her identity two days later.

The baby, born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on January 10, was involved in an altercation with two dogs, although it remains unclear which dog was responsible for the fatal injuries. Following the incident, Cleveland Police shot one dog on the spot, while the other was apprehended and later euthanized. Witnesses at the scene described the dogs as “pocket bullys.”

Although the police did not disclose the specific breed of the dogs, they clarified that the animals were legally owned. Subsequently, three individuals were arrested and subsequently released on bail for further investigation. Among those detained were a 31-year-old woman accused of child neglect and being in control of a dangerous dog that led to the fatal incident, a 36-year-old man suspected of the same offense, and a 45-year-old man arrested for being in control of a dog resulting in injury and death.
