Morrisons has officially announced the closure of one of its stores. The Morrisons Daily outlet located at Parkwood Green Shopping Centre in Rainham, Kent, is set to close its doors for the last time on July 3.
The decision to shut down the store comes after a strategic review conducted by the supermarket chain. This news has disappointed local residents, particularly with concerns raised about the impact on elderly shoppers. Following the closure, customers will need to visit alternative Morrisons Daily stores on Luton Road and Admiral Walk in Chatham. Additionally, larger Morrisons supermarkets in Walderslade and Strood are available nearby.
A spokesperson from Morrisons stated that the closure of the Parkwood Green store is part of their ongoing efforts to enhance competitiveness and provide the best value to customers. The priority now is to support affected employees by offering them alternative employment opportunities at nearby Morrisons locations.
The closure announcement has elicited shock and sadness from several shoppers, who believe it will significantly affect the local community. Last year, Morrisons closed 17 of its smaller Morrisons Daily stores across the UK as part of a broader restructuring effort that saw a total of 103 Morrisons sites cease trading in 2025, including cafés, florists, and pharmacies.
Morrisons had previously explained that the closures were necessary due to operational costs being disproportionate to usage, volumes, and customer value. The supermarket’s CEO, Rami Baitieh, emphasized that in some locations, closure and reallocation of space were the most practical solutions to address specific challenges.
The closure announcement coincides with Morrisons’ recent commitment to reducing prices on popular products to provide ongoing value to customers.
