A shocking incident unfolded when a driver under the influence of drugs caused their car to flip in the air while evading a police pursuit at a speed of 142mph. The heart-stopping police dashcam footage captured the moment Ashley Parr, 35, driving a white BMW 3 Series, collided with a roundabout, propelling the vehicle airborne. The car spun in mid-air before landing on the other side of the road, somersaulting multiple times before coming to a halt in a hedge.
The dramatic crash followed a high-speed police chase initiated after a concerned citizen reported reckless driving on Garrowby Hill, a road linking York with Driffield and East Yorkshire. Police identified Parr’s vehicle, registered in Leeds, and anticipated his route back to the city along the westbound A64. Traffic Constable Nick Simpson of North Yorkshire Constabulary positioned himself strategically and intercepted the BMW as it passed his location.
Simpson activated his emergency lights as he pursued Parr on the A1036 junction. Despite initial compliance, the driver abruptly changed lanes and accelerated towards the A1, reaching speeds of up to 140mph before attempting to negotiate a roundabout at junction 42 of the A1(M), resulting in the car becoming airborne.
Following the incident, Parr, a resident of Guiseley, Leeds, admitted to charges of dangerous driving, drug driving, and drink driving. He was subsequently sentenced to 16 months in prison and a driving ban of three years and eight months at York Crown Court. TC Simpson emphasized the severe risks posed by such reckless driving, highlighting the dedication of law enforcement to enhance road safety. He also commended the vigilant citizen who reported the dangerous driving and urged the public to report immediate threats by calling emergency services.
