“Concerns Rise Over Trump’s Post-Presidential Power Grab”

Published on

Donald Trump’s current term in office is set to conclude in January 2029. However, a cautionary voice suggests that he may try to retain power beyond that timeframe.

Renowned journalist Michael Wolff, known for his extensive coverage of Donald Trump in books like ‘Fire and Fury,’ has raised concerns about Trump’s potential grip on power post his second term.

Despite the U.S. constitution’s limitation of two presidential terms, the 79-year-old Trump has hinted at a possible run for the presidency again, evident from the emergence of ‘Trump 2028’ MAGA-style red caps. In an interview with NBC, Trump hinted at the possibility, stating that there are ways to achieve it and acknowledging the desire from many quarters for him to pursue it.

During a podcast episode on The Daily Beast, Wolff outlined a scenario where Trump could maintain influence in the White House through the involvement of his children, particularly focusing on his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.

Wolff pointed out Donald Jr.’s close association with his father, emphasizing his potential as a successor, especially considering that other Trump offspring like Ivanka and Tiffany have distanced themselves from such aspirations. Lara Trump, Eric Trump’s wife, also hinted at a possible run for office under favorable circumstances.

As Trump continues his confrontational stance with Iran, straining relations with NATO allies, his decisions regarding the Strait of Hormuz have drawn widespread criticism from global leaders. This conflict has led to jet fuel shortages and escalating gas and oil prices worldwide, potentially leaving Trump with strained international relationships as he exits the Oval Office in a couple of years.

Wolff suggested that for Trump to remain influential post his presidency, he would need to maintain a connection with the White House or possibly even challenge the Republican Party.

Reflecting on Trump’s post-presidential ambitions, Wolff mentioned the allure of the Mar-A-Lago setting for Trump and the significance of maintaining Republican support to project his influence. Despite potential contentment in this scenario, Wolff highlighted that Trump would not be pleased if another Republican figure were to overshadow him within the party.
