Prince Charles Receives Blue Peter ‘Green’ Badge

Published on

Prince Charles has been awarded a prestigious Blue Peter ‘Green’ badge in recognition of his outstanding efforts in environmental conservation. The badge was presented to him by Blue Peter host Joel Mawhinney during a special ceremony on Earth Day at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, where the King’s Foundation is based. This special badge is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to preserving nature and the environment, joining the ranks of notable recipients such as Sir David Attenborough and Prince William, the King’s son.

In a symbolic gesture, the monarch, who had previously received a gold Blue Peter badge and proudly displayed it on his attire, placed another badge into a time capsule to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the King’s Foundation. This time capsule will be buried on the estate for a century before being unearthed by future generations. During his visit to Dumfries House’s educational facilities, the King interacted with primary school students participating in the King’s Foundation Growing Together, Cooking Together program, as well as students from Auchenharvie Academy in North Ayrshire, who were commended for their sustainability initiatives.

Joel expressed the significance of the occasion by acknowledging the King’s exceptional work in environmental protection and his dedication to inspiring young minds through The King’s Foundation. The King, a staunch advocate for reducing food waste, initiated the Coronation Food Project in 2023 to redistribute surplus food to those in need in Merseyside, Birmingham, and London.

Earlier this year, the King appeared in a documentary titled Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision on Amazon Prime, where he discussed his enduring commitment to environmental conservation. The film highlighted his vision for sustainability and emphasized the importance of working harmoniously with nature. The King and Queen were previously awarded Gold Blue Peter Badges in 2023 for their respective contributions to environmental causes and youth support through The King’s Trust.

Furthermore, Camilla received recognition for her efforts in promoting literacy and reading from a young age. Viewers can catch Prince Charles on a special episode of Blue Peter airing on CBBC on Friday, May 1.
