Tragedy struck at a park in west London as a woman and child lost their lives after encountering difficulties in the water.
The mother and son were found in distress at Elthorne Park in Ealing, prompting a police response just before 4:30pm. Despite rescue efforts, both individuals passed away at the scene.
Authorities are currently working to notify their relatives, withholding the specific ages of the deceased.
The Metropolitan Police expressed gratitude towards emergency teams and civilians for their efforts during the challenging incident.
A police spokesperson reported: “At Elthorne Park, Ealing, a distressing incident unfolded with two individuals requiring assistance in the water. Despite immediate medical attention from emergency responders, the woman and child were tragically pronounced dead on-site.
“It is believed that the deceased are a mother and her son. Identification of their next of kin is underway.”
Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray, part of the Metropolitan Police’s West Area Command Unit, expressed sorrow, stating: “The loss of a woman and her young child in this tragic event is heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with their family and friends.
“I want to acknowledge the swift actions of first responders and members of the public who worked diligently in a highly challenging situation.
“While investigations are ongoing, initial findings suggest no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.”
