Singer Olly Murs finds himself in the midst of numerous children as he reflects on his own family back home. His recent trip to Bucharest, Romania, involves his visit to a UNICEF project aiding families affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

Expressing his emotions, Olly shared a poignant moment where he met a mother with a young child similar in age to his own daughter, Madi. Observing families adjusting to life in a new environment after leaving their war-torn homes, Olly acknowledges his own fortune having his family safe in Brentford, Essex.

Having witnessed the struggles faced by these families, Olly empathizes with their challenges. He visited the Pipera Primero Hub in northern Bucharest, where he met Oksana, a former teacher from Ukraine, and her daughter Alisa. Oksana shared her story of leaving behind a destroyed home and damaged apartment due to the conflict.

Despite the heart-wrenching realities of the families he met, Olly found solace in witnessing the children thriving in a safe environment, away from the horrors of war. He now aims to support UNICEF by participating in a 400km challenge for Soccer Aid’s 20th Anniversary, involving running, rowing, and cycling from Manchester to London.

Preparing for the challenge, Olly faces his fears, including his fear of deep water, as he trains with a rowing coach. Despite past knee issues, he remains determined to push through the physical and mental demands of the challenge, inspired by the families he met.

Following the footsteps of fellow participant Sam Thompson, Olly is eager to make a meaningful contribution to Soccer Aid’s milestone anniversary. He feels ready and determined to leave a lasting impact through this historic endeavor.
