A man who committed sexual assaults on a woman, including rape and threats of violence, has been sentenced to prison after pretending to be Osama Bin Laden and making bomb threats. Ross Fyles, a repeat sex offender, physically attacked the victim with a knife, scissors, and fake gun, and sent abusive messages before leaving a threatening voicemail at her workplace.
During the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, it was revealed that Fyles had a history of criminal activities, including sexual offenses involving a minor. His defense lawyer highlighted his troubled upbringing, alcohol misuse, and past bullying experiences as contributing factors to his behavior. Despite the defense’s arguments, Fyles was found guilty on multiple charges, receiving a 16-year prison sentence with an additional three-year extended license.
The judge emphasized the severity of Fyles’ actions, noting the lasting impact on the victim’s mental well-being. He pointed out Fyles’ pattern of disregarding rules and engaging in violent behavior, indicating a potential for future harm. Fyles will serve a minimum term in prison before being considered for parole, along with a lifelong ban on contacting the victim and registration as a sex offender.
