Nigel Farage disclosed that his residence had been targeted by a firebomb, emphasizing the significant hazards associated with his role. The leader of Reform UK recounted that the incendiary device was dispatched through his letterbox the previous year, with no perpetrators identified. Farage mentioned that a substantial sum, approximately £5 million, had been provided by Christopher Harborne, a wealthy individual based in Thailand, to cover his security expenses.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Farage revealed that he was absent during the incident, which occurred early last year. He described it as a deliberate act of arson, stating that upon his return, he discovered the extent of the damage. Farage speculated that the culprits were likely interrupted during the attack.
Moreover, Farage, who had encountered incidents such as having milkshakes and a rock hurled at him during the 2024 General Election campaign, recounted an episode where his vehicle was vandalized by protestors. He expressed concerns about online threats and the lack of police response to reported incidents, along with the British government’s reluctance to provide assistance.
Addressing the media, Farage explained that he chose to disclose the situation due to a breach of his financial information. He disclosed that Harborne had committed to covering his security costs in early 2024, prior to his decision to run for parliament. The undisclosed gift, exempt from taxation as it was not classified as a political contribution, was intended to ensure Farage’s lifelong safety and protection.
Farage clarified that the financial support from Harborne aimed to guarantee his security indefinitely, following unsuccessful attempts to secure funding from the Home Office. Notably, Harborne was present with Farage when the latter was targeted with a milkshake during a campaign event in Newcastle in 2019.
