A man with two children has been imprisoned following a social media post on Facebook that led to legal trouble. Nottingham Crown Court heard that Mason Jeffrey, 37, made threatening remarks towards an ex-partner he had previously assaulted. This breach of a suspended sentence order resulted in his incarceration for up to a year.

During sentencing, Judge Rosalind Coe KC acknowledged Jeffrey’s explanation regarding a new relationship but emphasized the seriousness of breaching the restraining order and making threatening messages. The prosecutor, Georgina Miller, revealed that Jeffrey had received a suspended two-year jail term in February 2025 for assaulting his ex-partner, along with a five-year restraining order.

Despite pleading guilty to violating the suspended sentence and restraining order, Jeffrey had a history of 19 previous convictions for 31 offenses. In his defense, Digby Johnson noted that Jeffrey had recently relocated to Nottingham after facing housing challenges in Skegness. Johnson also highlighted Jeffrey’s heroic act of saving his brother-in-law’s life during a severe asthma attack.

Looking ahead, Jeffrey has been assured of accommodation with a friend upon his release from prison in Long Eaton. His defense attorney pointed out that the trigger for the incident was hearing about a new man threatening his children in public.
