“Former BBC Weather Presenter Carol Kirkwood Ventures into Writing”

Published on

Carol Kirkwood has surprised her BBC co-star with her ventures outside of television. The former BBC Breakfast weather presenter bid adieu to the program in April after a remarkable 28-year tenure at the corporation.

In a heartfelt on-air message, the 63-year-old expressed her gratitude, reflecting on informing viewers about everything from heatwaves to snow, and the age-old query of whether to carry an umbrella. She acknowledged her past and present colleagues, crediting them as her team, support system, and sometimes, her family.

Known primarily for her weather forecasting, Carol has delved into writing in recent times, much to the amazement of Carol Klein, host of Gardeners’ World. During an appearance on the Pottering with Tom Allen podcast, Carol Klein was taken aback upon discovering Carol Kirkwood’s writing pursuits.

Discussing the weather changes during the podcast, Carol Klein praised Carol Kirkwood’s gardening passion, and Tom Allen added that she is also a proficient writer, surprising Carol Klein. Tom highlighted Carol Kirkwood’s numerous novels, prompting Carol Klein to express interest in reading them, as they are known for their delightful settings.

Carol Kirkwood, speaking about her future post-departure from the show, mentioned her eagerness to enjoy newfound freedom with her husband Steve Randall, whom she married in 2023. She cited personal reasons for her decision, emphasizing the importance of seizing the moment due to recent life losses and her new marriage.

Despite retiring from her television role, Carol Kirkwood remains industrious. Her sixth romance novel is scheduled for release in October, with commitments to write two more books thereafter. Additionally, she expressed a desire to learn the guitar and adopt a couple of cats.

BBC Breakfast is broadcast daily from approximately 6 am on BBC One and the BBC News channel.
