A young drug dealer, Leon Bangura, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 31 years for the murder of Kalvin Taylor during a drug-related turf dispute in Norwich. The victim, a 19-year-old member of the “Batman” county lines gang, was fatally stabbed by Bangura, who belonged to the rival “Lenny” gang. In an emotional statement at Norwich Crown Court, Lorraine Hall, Mr. Taylor’s grandmother, expressed her grief and stated that the family could never forgive Bangura for taking her grandson’s life.
Mr. Taylor, described as once loving school but later influenced by negative peers, was tragically killed in a two-minute drug raid. Despite his troubled path, Ms. Hall expressed gratitude for having had him in their lives and lamented their inability to shield him from harm.
During the trial, it was revealed that Bangura had also been involved in the supply of class A drugs and was found with a bladed article at the time of his arrest. The court learned that the fatal incident stemmed from a dispute over a drug debt owed by tenant Richard Iverson. CCTV footage and testimonies detailed the events leading up to Mr. Taylor’s death.
Bangura, who claimed self-defense during the trial, was the only defendant convicted of murder, with the other co-defendants being acquitted. Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Dave McCormack commended the Taylor family for their strength throughout the investigation and trial, emphasizing the dedication of all involved in seeking justice for the victim.
