In a Barcelona suburb, a woman was fatally stabbed in what appears to be a random attack on the street.
A disturbing image emerged overnight showing a man wielding the weapon believed to have been used in the assault on the victim, as authorities confirmed an arrest has been made.
The incident occurred yesterday morning in Esplugues de Llobregat, near Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium, during broad daylight. Authorities are working to determine the relationship between the assailant and the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed.
Law enforcement stated that there was no romantic involvement between the two individuals. Sources close to the investigation indicated that authorities are considering the possibility of a random stabbing.
The victim, described as “young” locally, sustained stab wounds to the throat, chest, and stomach. Another man, aged 50, was also injured while trying to intervene and suffered arm injuries, though not severe. The tragic incident took place in a residential vicinity near Sant Joan Deu Hospital at around 11 am the previous day.
The suspected perpetrator, dressed in jeans and a hoodie and carrying a large black backpack, was apprehended in Barcelona’s Les Corts neighborhood around midday.
The Esplugues de Llobregat Town Hall expressed sorrow over the violent death that occurred in the town, extending condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
The town council denounced all forms of violence and voiced concerns about such serious incidents impacting community life and public safety.
The Mossos D’Esquadra regional police force confirmed the arrest of a man suspected of being involved in the fatal incident in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona.
Following a report received by the emergency number 112 at 11 am, indicating a man injuring a woman and fleeing, authorities and emergency services responded but could not save the victim’s life. The alleged perpetrator was subsequently located and taken into custody.
Forensic tent footage from the scene revealed the body shielded from public view. Authorities have ruled out terrorism as a motive for the crime.
