Jet2 has made a significant announcement that will greatly benefit British travelers. The airline’s first flight to Samos departed from Manchester Airport, marking the introduction of a new Greek route for summer 2026. Jet2 is now offering flights and holiday packages to Samos, known for its stunning landscapes and golden beaches. The airline will operate flights twice a week on Tuesday and Friday until the end of October. Additional flights to Samos will be available from Birmingham Airport on May 4 and from London Stansted Airport on May 7.
According to BirminghamLive, Birmingham will have weekly Monday services until October 26, while Stansted will offer flights twice a week on Monday and Thursday until October 29. Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, expressed excitement about the launch of flights to Samos and highlighted the popularity of this new destination among travelers seeking a relaxed Greek island experience.
In other news, Italy and Portugal are considering eliminating EU border checks at airports, following Greece’s lead. British holidaymakers have faced delays at European airports due to the implementation of the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES). Greece has already waived these rules for UK travelers until September to alleviate long queues. Reports suggest that airports in Portugal are allowing passengers to bypass queues, and Italy is expected to adopt a similar approach as the May half-term approaches. Other popular destinations like Spain, France, and Croatia may also follow suit.
