“Met Gala Returns: Fashion Is Art Amid Boycott”

Published on

The Met Gala returns tonight, promising a showcase of stunning ensembles. This year’s theme, “Fashion Is Art,” encourages guests to embrace fashion as a form of art and honor artistic representations of clothing throughout history.

Despite the anticipation for tonight’s event, some prominent figures have opted to boycott the Met Gala due to concerns over the involvement of sponsors Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. The duo serves as the primary sponsors and honorary co-chairs alongside Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.

As we eagerly await the unveiling of tonight’s outfits, let’s reflect on past iconic Met Gala looks. In 2019, Kim donned a Thierry Mugler gown designed to mimic a wet appearance, adorned with cascading jewels that took eight months to create.

In the same year, Katy Perry made a memorable entrance dressed as a dazzling crystal chandelier complete with illuminated lights, designed by Jeremy Scott.

Sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner embraced a showgirl aesthetic at a past Met Gala, donning elaborate gowns crafted by Versace. Their outfits exuded a vibrant and fun vibe, with Kendall expressing admiration for the designs.

At a previous Met Gala, Rihanna’s attire paid homage to the Roman Catholic theme, featuring a pearl and jewel-encrusted ensemble adorned with multiple gems, including a papal mitre and necklace.

In 2021, Kim made a statement with a head-to-toe masked ensemble at the Met Gala, sparking speculation about its connection to Kanye West’s album, Donda.

Jaden Smith turned heads at a past Met Gala with a seemingly understated outfit complemented by a unique accessory – a handful of his own blonde hair.

Kim Kardashian, attending as Kanye West’s guest in 2013 while pregnant with North, sported a floral dress that later drew comparisons to Mrs. Doubtfire, leaving her emotional after receiving critical comments.

Doja Cat opted for a ‘wet white t-shirt’ inspired gown at the Met Gala, showcasing a timeless and poetic look that stood out amidst the floral-themed ensembles.

In a quirky move, Jared Leto arrived at the 2019 Met Gala with a replica of his own head as an accessory, aligning with the event’s ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme.

Rihanna’s striking yellow gown at a past Met Gala garnered attention and inspired pizza-themed memes, with the designer emphasizing the dress’s entertainment value over its fashion statement.
