Lidl has introduced a significant change to its loyalty program, allowing customers to accrue points based on their spending. Users of the Lidl Plus app will earn one point for every pound spent in-store, which can be exchanged for free products or discounts on purchases.
For instance, a quick check on the Lidl Plus app by the Mirror revealed that 100 points could get you items like a free cucumber, plain tortilla wraps, or houmous. With 200 points, customers can redeem a free halloumi or Greek yoghurt, while 300 points can earn them £3 off their next shopping bill, and 500 points can result in a £5 discount.
The new points system, valid for two years, replaces the previous rewards tied to monthly spending thresholds. While Lidl Plus continues to offer personalized discount coupons on select items, customers can now access and select their rewards through the Rewards Marketplace section of the app.
According to a Lidl spokesperson cited by The Grocer, users may earn more than one point per pound spent through various promotions like Rewards of the Week, double points, triple points, or free points on specific products. Lidl’s chief customer officer, Louise Weise, emphasized that the updated loyalty program aims to offer customers more flexibility and control over their rewards.
To kick off the revamped scheme, all Lidl Plus app users are receiving a bonus of 100 points. Additionally, they will earn double points on all fruit purchases until May 22.
