A 20-year-old football player, Oteta Kristina Kitiona, is facing allegations of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy and sharing explicit images with him. The incidents reportedly took place in Utah in 2024 when Kitiona was 19 years old. Kitiona, who was part of Samoa’s FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying squad in 2027, is accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior with the boy over a six-month period. Court records indicate that the abuse occurred prior to Kitiona attending college.
The victim informed the authorities that Kitiona would visit his residence two to three times weekly from June to October 2024 for sexual encounters. The so-called “relationship” paused when Kitiona left for Bellevue College in Washington state but resumed upon her return home a month later. During the hiatus, Kitiona allegedly sent the boy explicit photos and videos where she appeared nude. Moreover, she purportedly encouraged him to share nude images of himself, including while he was in the shower.
The legal age of consent in Utah is 18 years old. Kitiona was charged with distributing harmful material to a minor and three counts of engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor under 21. These charges were brought against her two months after participating in Samoa’s national women’s football team during the World Cup qualifying matches in February. Kitiona is scheduled to appear in court on June 6.
