A specialized team from the British Army has conducted a parachute operation onto Tristan da Cunha following the arrival of a British individual suspected of having contracted hantavirus from the MV Hondius on the isolated island.

The deployment involved six paratroopers and two military medical professionals who were air-dropped from an RAF A400M aircraft, along with essential supplies including oxygen and medical assistance, according to the Ministry of Defence.

In parallel, the MV Hondius has docked in Tenerife in the Canary Islands, where preparations are being made for the evacuation of all passengers and some crew members. Plans are in place at the Granadilla port to facilitate the repatriation of over 100 individuals.

Meanwhile, the source of the cruise ship outbreak has been traced back to a Dutch birdwatcher named Leo Schilperoord, who visited a landfill in Argentina and has been identified as the initial case. Tragically, he, his spouse, and another German passenger have succumbed to the disease.

Asymptomatic passengers are being screened by Spanish health authorities before being transferred ashore via small vessels. Subsequently, they will be transported by sealed buses to Tenerife South Airport for flights back to their respective countries.

Following the evacuation, the MV Hondius will proceed to the Netherlands with a reduced crew of 30 for a thorough disinfection process.

This development marks the arrival of the hantavirus-affected MV Hondius at the Port of Granadilla in Tenerife, where passengers and some crew members will be evacuated.

Spanish health authorities will conduct tests on passengers, who have not displayed any symptoms, to ensure they remain free of infection before they are disembarked using small boats.
