British Tourists’ Majorca Bar Brawl Ends in Conviction

Published on

Two British tourists carried out a violent assault on three individuals at a cocktail bar in Majorca after being denied more drinks by a staff member.

The public prosecutors released a four-page indictment detailing the incident at the Provincial Court of Palma. Tommy Colm Witty, 24, and Alexander Lee Anderson, 33, along with two unidentified individuals, became aggressive towards a female employee who refused to serve them. This led to a physical altercation where the accused pushed her, causing her to fall and sustain injuries.

During the altercation, a male colleague who tried to intervene was struck on the head with a glass, while another customer was injured by a glass thrown at him. CCTV footage of the assault was made public, showing the severity of the attack, with Witty identified as the perpetrator.

All three victims required medical attention for their injuries, including stitches, and had to take time off work due to the incident. Witty and Anderson faced the possibility of up to ten years in jail each before reaching a last-minute plea bargain deal for the assault at Iroko Mallorca.

As a result of the plea bargain, Witty received a two-year suspended prison sentence, while Anderson was fined 720 Euros. Additionally, the pair agreed to provide a monetary settlement to the victims as part of the deal. Despite initially facing charges of attempted homicide, the tourists were ultimately convicted of three counts of wounding.

The Civil Guard spokesperson confirmed the arrests of the two individuals, aged 24 and 33, on suspicion of the violent altercation, which caused injuries to multiple individuals. The incident led to a mass fight at a nightspot in Palmanova, where the tourists attacked both employees and customers.

The injured parties were promptly taken to a hospital in Palma for treatment, with wounds requiring stitches on various parts of their bodies. Following the intervention of law enforcement, the suspects were arrested and taken into custody.
