Jason Watkins has shared his experience of the tragic passing of his daughter, 15 years after her death.
The actor and his wife, Clara, faced the heartbreaking loss of their two-year-old daughter to sepsis in 2011. Jason discovered his daughter, who had flu symptoms, lifeless in her bed on New Year’s Day. Unfortunately, Maude’s flu disguise hid the sepsis, leading to a missed diagnosis despite two hospital visits.
Following this tragedy, Jason has been actively advocating for awareness about sepsis, the silent killer. Together with Clara, they have openly discussed their grief and produced an ITV documentary titled “Jason & Clara: In Memory of Maude” in 2023.
During an appearance on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, Jason reflected on the ongoing emotional journey his family has endured since their loss. The TV personality, a father to Bessie and Gilbert, mentioned his upcoming visit to parliament to discuss sepsis and its care.
Expressing his personal connection to the cause, Jason hopes that people resonate with his story. Additionally, in a separate interview with Giovanna Fletcher on her Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, Clara expressed the belief that Maude’s death was a result of unfortunate circumstances that could have been prevented with timely medical intervention.
Clara questioned why she did not insist on more assertive action from the hospital, feeling a sense of personal failure in not safeguarding her child’s life. Sepsis manifests through symptoms like confusion, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, fever, intense pain, and clammy skin.
The article concludes by mentioning that Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh airs every Sunday at 9:30 am.
