Recent weather models indicate a potential temperature increase to around 24C in certain areas of the country.
According to the Met Office’s forecast, the upcoming week is expected to be predominantly gloomy, with no projections of temperatures exceeding 20C anywhere in the nation from Monday to Friday.
Conversely, the ECMWF weather model indicates a potential rise in temperatures in a four-day period commencing on May 21, with highs of 23C anticipated in the south-east of England. Central England could also experience temperatures reaching up to 20C, as per the weather maps.
On May 22, forecasts suggest temperatures could climb to 24C in the south-east, including London, while other southern regions might see highs of 22C, with central England potentially reaching 21C.
May 23 is expected to bring temperatures of 23C in southern England and 21C in the Midlands. Northern Ireland and Scotland are likely to experience slightly cooler conditions compared to England during this period, with parts of Wales near the English border possibly reaching around 20C.
The ECMWF model suggests that May 24 could see widespread warmth, with potential highs of 22C and 23C across a large portion of England, from the south coast up to Yorkshire. The maps indicate that 35 counties in England and Wales may witness temperatures of 20C or higher over the four-day period.
The Met Office’s outlook hints at temperatures possibly turning “rather warm” towards the end of the month, following a period of “cooler than average” conditions.
From May 16 to May 25, the Met Office forecasts a scenario dominated by changeable and occasionally unsettled conditions, with periods of rain or showers expected in various regions. While initial temperatures may be cooler than usual, a trend towards warmer weather by the end of the period is anticipated, especially in southern areas as conditions become more stable.
