Alan Titchmarsh has shared the reason behind his and his wife Alison’s recent relocation after residing in their Georgian Grade II-listed home in Holybourne, Hampshire for 23 years. The couple made the move to a more contemporary property in Surrey, influenced by their daughters Camilla and Polly and their grandchildren, who live just a short walk away in the same village.

Initially content with their former residence, Alan, aged 76, revealed that it was their children who convinced them to consider the new house. The modern property, only four years old and equipped with air source pumps, is a stark contrast to their previous home but made perfect sense due to its close proximity to their family.

The move has allowed Alan to enjoy more quality time with his grandchildren, whom he adores for their warm greetings and affection. He is currently undertaking a new garden project at the new property, carefully evaluating what to retain and what changes to implement throughout the spring and summer.

Alan, known for sharing gardening tips on his YouTube channel Gardening with Alan Titchmarsh, recently cautioned viewers about common watering mistakes. He emphasized the importance of directing water to the base of plants rather than spraying it over leaves and flowers, as the latter leads to evaporation and hinders root absorption.

Furthermore, Alan provided insights on deterring rats from gardens during spring. While advocating for feeding garden birds, he warned against placing bird feeders near hedges or walls, as they can attract rats seeking shelter. Instead, he advised positioning feeders in open spaces, such as the center of a lawn, to discourage rat activity and enhance birdwatching opportunities.
