A father hailed his eight-year-old son as the true hero for their intervention on a Jet2 flight bound for Manchester, preventing a diversion caused by a disruptive passenger. James Rose, 42, from Salford, along with his son Phoenix, stepped in to calm the troubled traveler on a flight from Izmir, Turkey, last Friday.
According to passenger John Henderson, the flight had a delayed departure due to passenger transfers from a canceled service. The disruption occurred about 30 minutes into the flight when a woman began causing a disturbance after her own alcohol was confiscated by cabin crew.
Mr. Rose offered to help diffuse the situation by engaging with the agitated passenger, who was then seated next to him for the remainder of the flight. He managed to keep the situation under control through conversation and empathy, earning gratitude from the cabin crew.
Despite the attention received for their actions, Mr. Rose credited his son Phoenix for handling the situation remarkably well. Phoenix engaged with the troubled passenger, diverting her attention and maintaining a calm atmosphere throughout the flight. Mr. Rose emphasized his son’s compassion and effectiveness in resolving the incident.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Rose highlighted the importance of helping others, a value instilled by his mother. The Greater Manchester Police confirmed their presence at the scene but reported no criminal activities. Phoenix expressed concern for the woman’s well-being, showing empathy and kindness beyond his years.
