Police have announced a recent arrest linked to the investigation of Lucy Letby, the nurse convicted of killing babies. Cheshire Constabulary revealed that a search warrant was executed at a property, resulting in the arrest of an individual for suspected obstruction of justice. The person has been released on bail pending further investigation.
Letby, a 36-year-old nurse from Hereford, received a life sentence for murdering seven infants and attempting to kill seven others while working at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016. The arrested individual, reportedly a member of the hospital’s leadership team, is connected to the case.
The police operation, known as Operation Duet, focuses on investigating corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter at the hospital. The recent arrest was part of this ongoing probe. Authorities confirmed the continuation of investigations into both aspects without specifying any timeline.
Cheshire Constabulary responded to criticisms made by Sir David Davis, who alleged deviations from professional standards in the force’s conduct. The former Brexit secretary demanded the release of investigative documents, questioning the handling of the case. In response, the police emphasized the need for factual scrutiny amid persistent criticism and misinformation.
Lucy Letby’s case is under review by the Criminal Cases Review Commission following unsuccessful appeals against her convictions in 2024.
