“Attempted Murder Charges Filed After Hit-and-Run in Blyth”

Published on

Two individuals, a man and a teenage boy, are facing attempted murder charges following an incident in Blyth, Northumberland, where two women in their 30s were hit by a vehicle. The women were struck on Keelmans Terrace early Friday morning, resulting in serious injuries for one of them who is currently in critical condition at the hospital. The other woman suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Corey Charters, 20, and a 17-year-old boy, whose identity is protected by law, have been accused of attempted murder in relation to the incident near Beaumont Street. The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene and was later discovered burnt out in Cramlington.

Authorities detained three individuals during the investigation. While Charters and the teenage boy have been formally charged, a 21-year-old man who was also arrested has been released on bail. Charters, who is homeless, faces additional charges for driving without a valid license and insurance. Both he and the teenager are scheduled to appear in court in North Shields.

Northumbria Police is seeking information, particularly doorbell, CCTV, or dashcam footage, to aid in the ongoing inquiry. Detective Chief Inspector Jason Henry emphasized that despite progress in the case, the investigation is ongoing. The authorities are specifically interested in the movements of a dark-colored 2007 Honda SUV that was reportedly in the vicinity during the early hours of the incident.

The police suspect that the victims had a prior altercation with the occupants of the same vehicle before the collision. The vehicle was found burnt later that day in Cramlington. The community is urged not to speculate on the details of the case now that charges have been filed, and to respect the legal process.
