A driver who had been banned from driving was found joking about having accumulated 59 penalty points when police stopped him. Bodycam footage captured Iain Ashmore, 45, claiming he was unfairly targeted by officers before they checked his driving history and discovered his high number of penalty points. Despite being prohibited from driving, Ashmore was pulled over on July 23 while operating a white Ford Transit Connect.

Initially, Ashmore expressed frustration about being frequently stopped by the police, alleging he had been pulled over three times in one month and even threatened to file a formal complaint. However, when PC Mark Solder informed him that he had 59 points on his record, Ashmore humorously asked if the count had decreased, then jokingly corrected himself by stating it was actually 61.

Under the UK’s ‘totting up’ system, drivers who amass 12 penalty points within three years typically face a minimum six-month driving ban. When questioned about how he managed to retain his license with 61 points, Ashmore jokingly replied, “Because I’m a very good person.”

Ashmore, residing in Witham St Hughes, Lincolnshire, was charged with driving the white Ford Transit Connect on three separate occasions while disqualified, along with other driving offenses. He admitted to the charges in Lincoln Magistrates’ Court and was handed a suspended eight-week prison sentence, a driving disqualification until July 2027, and was ordered to cover court costs and a surcharge.

PC Solder from Lincolnshire Police commented on Ashmore’s case, emphasizing the dangers posed by individuals driving without regard for the law. Ashmore’s actions were described as reckless and a threat to other lawful drivers, leading to his extended disqualification and legal consequences.
