“Beloved Atlanta Amusement Park To Close After 40 Years”

Published on

A beloved US amusement park is gearing up to close its doors after nearly 40 years of operation. Fun Spot America, located in Atlanta, Georgia, originally debuted as Dixieland Fun Park in 1990. Acquired by the Fun Spot America Theme Parks group in 2017, the park will permanently shutter on August 2.

The park features a diverse array of attractions, including 14 major rides such as three high-speed roller coasters and a 40-foot go-kart track. Additionally, it offers Georgia’s sole legal bungee-jumping tower and several gentler rides suitable for families and young children.

The specific reason for the closure has not been disclosed by the park’s management. According to The Street, theme parks with aging facilities often struggle to remain financially viable without substantial reinvestment for maintenance and upgrades.

Customers who have made advanced bookings for school or group trips beyond the closure date will be contacted directly by the park’s owners. Any unused gift cards or season passes must be utilized before the park’s final day of operation.

While Fun Spot America in Atlanta will bid farewell, the company’s other locations in Orlando and Kissimmee will continue to welcome visitors.

The future of the current park site remains uncertain, with no public announcements regarding potential redevelopment or the dismantling of rides.

The closure of Fun Spot America in Atlanta adds to the growing list of theme parks shutting down. CEO John Arie Jr. expressed the difficulty of the decision, acknowledging the dedication of the Atlanta team and the support from the local community in Fayetteville.

In a message on its Instagram page, Fun Spot America invited guests to create lasting memories and enjoy their final rides before the park’s closure on June 25.
