Escape to the Country host Nicki Chapman has shared her harrowing experience of discovering she had a brain tumor, recounting the moment she was overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving the diagnosis. The popular TV and radio personality, known for her role on the BBC property show, discussed her health battle on HELLO!’s Second Act podcast with Aled Jones.
Nicki, aged 59, described the frightening onset of her ordeal following a seizure, which initially led medical professionals to suspect a stroke. However, it was later revealed to be a benign brain tumor, leaving her deeply distraught and wishing for it to disappear.
Former music industry executive Nicki, recognized for her work with artists such as the Spice Girls and Take That before transitioning to television, was diagnosed with the tumor in 2019. Despite being cautioned about the risks associated with surgical intervention, she found inspiration in jockey Frankie Dettori’s positive attitude before undergoing the procedure.
In hindsight, Nicki reflected on her acceptance of the situation, expressing gratitude for her life and the opportunity to reach 60. Following a successful recovery, she has resumed her role on Escape to the Country, assisting individuals in finding their ideal homes in scenic rural settings across the UK.
During the interview, Nicki also touched on her entertainment career, including her involvement as a judge on Pop Idol, where she emphasized the show’s genuine pursuit of talent compared to later reality TV programs. Fully recovered now, she chooses to focus on cherishing life rather than worrying about the aging process.
In recent updates, fans of Escape to the Country were delighted to learn that filming for a new series has commenced. Nicki shared the news on social media, encouraging interested participants to apply for the show for a chance to fulfill their countryside living aspirations.
