Beloved Meteorologist Dies in Plane Crash

Published on

A beloved weather forecaster tragically lost his life when the aircraft he was in struck a power line and crashed into a cold river. Roland Steadham, a seasoned meteorologist aged 67, was one of the two individuals who perished in the recent accident. Flight records revealed that communication with the plane was lost at approximately 10:55 am local time, just 12 minutes after departing from Emmett Airport in Idaho.

Following the crash, the wreckage was discovered in the nearby Payette River, with authorities suspecting that the plane collided with an object, possibly a power line. The Gem County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the preliminary investigation indicated a small plane hit a power line before crashing onto the river ice. Both male occupants onboard sustained fatal injuries in the incident.

Emergency responders swiftly mobilized to the crash site via boat as the region, including Idaho, experienced severe cold temperatures. The identity of the second individual who died in the crash was not immediately disclosed. Details regarding the aircraft model and the circumstances leading to the crash were not promptly made available.

Roland Steadham, recognized as a proficient pilot, operated a small aircraft from Emmett, as per CBS2 reports. He had accumulated over 3,000 flight hours and had visited students at the Payette River Regional Technical Academy just a week prior to the tragic event. The crash resulted in a power outage in the vicinity, and Idaho Power is collaborating with emergency personnel to restore the lines once the area is secured. An investigation into the crash cause is currently underway.

This incident occurred shortly after another tragic plane crash at Maine’s Bangor International Airport, where a private jet crashed during takeoff, resulting in the deaths of all individuals onboard. Among the victims were a corporate pilot recently hired by a Texas law firm associated with the plane, and an event planner who had collaborated with the firm on past projects.

One of the casualties, Shawna Collins, 53, a long-time employee at Lakewood Church in Houston, was confirmed to have perished in the crash. Collins was known for her event planning work, including organizing events for clients such as Arnold and Itkin Trial Lawyers, the law firm connected to the ill-fated plane. Church representatives described Collins as a beloved individual with a vibrant personality.
