A father tragically passed away after he noticed two individuals struggling in the water while enjoying a picnic with his family and bravely leaped in to rescue them.

Rushabh Patel, aged 28, was among the 18 casualties who lost their lives in water-related incidents during the recent Bank Holiday heatwave in the UK. On May 24, Patel witnessed the distress of two swimmers at Newport Pagnell Beach near Milton Keynes.

Without hesitation, Patel entered the River Great Ouse and successfully saved the endangered swimmers. Regrettably, he lost his life during the rescue attempt, leaving behind his wife and their 18-month-old daughter.

Following the incident, emergency services arrived promptly, and Patel was airlifted to Milton Keynes University Hospital. Despite extensive medical efforts over several days, he was pronounced deceased on May 28.

It is believed that Patel suffered a cardiac arrest upon entering the wild swimming area. Posthumously, his organs were donated, benefiting the lives of five individuals.

Aman Patel, Rushabh’s brother, praised his sibling’s courageous sacrifice, stating that Rushabh’s final act epitomized heroism.

In response to the tragedy, a fundraiser has been initiated to support Patel’s wife and daughter. The fundraiser highlighted Patel’s dedication as a husband, father, son, and friend, emphasizing his impact on those around him.

The fundraiser also expressed the profound loss experienced by Patel’s family, underscoring the void left by his untimely passing. Additionally, the RNLI issued a warning regarding cold water shock in light of the recent water-related fatalities across the UK.
