Britain is in for a warm spell dubbed as a ‘spring sizzler’ with temperatures expected to hit 19C and possibly higher. Today is anticipated to be the warmest day of the year so far, with maximum temperatures ranging from 18C to 19C in certain areas and 16-17C more generally, according to the Met Office.

The misty and fresh conditions in the morning are predicted to clear up across most regions, paving the way for summer-like weather in many parts of the country. However, areas in the far north and Northern Ireland may experience some rain. This unusual warm spell is attributed to a surge of warmer air originating from the Mediterranean.

Some locations are forecasted to experience temperatures reaching 18 to 19C. Last week, Kew Gardens recorded a high of 18.7C, marking the warmest day of the year so far, but today’s temperatures are expected to surpass this record.

Although some northern areas may see rain, it is likely to move eastward throughout the day, as mentioned by Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick. The eastern regions should mostly experience fine weather with plenty of sunny periods until rain approaches from the east.

Friday is expected to be cloudier in much of England and Wales, while Northern Ireland and Scotland are anticipated to receive more sunshine. High temperatures of 11C-12C are predicted for England and Wales on Friday.

The weekend ahead will bring a mix of patchy clouds and sunshine, with temperatures reaching 12C-13C on Saturday and 14C on Sunday. “It’s the first week of meteorological spring, so not a bad forecast,” added Ms. Criswick.

Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, as some forecasters are now predicting a return to colder temperatures by the middle of next week. James Madden from Exacta Weather forecasts a “cold and wintry theme” arriving around mid-March, specifically on March 11, lasting for at least several to ten days.
