British authorities are exploring potential charges against the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case. The Metropolitan Police disclosed that they sent a formal request to German national Christian Brueckner, who declined to be questioned. The investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance in 2007 continues as a missing person inquiry, with detectives reassessing both German and Portuguese investigations following Brueckner’s release from prison.

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley affirmed that Brueckner remains a suspect and highlighted the possibility of extradition to the UK due to the extraterritorial nature of certain crimes. The German police’s efforts were commended, and Brueckner, previously imprisoned for a separate crime, has consistently denied involvement in Madeleine’s case.
