Canada’s Marco Arop clinched the fourth position on Friday at the Diamond League track and field event held in Lausanne, Switzerland, at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Arop began strongly, leading the pack as they entered the final lap but couldn’t sustain the pace, finishing fourth with a time of 1:43.18.

The victory in the men’s 800m race went to Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi in 1:42.19, with Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati securing second place with a season-best time of 1:42.31. American Brandon Miller claimed the third spot with a time of 1:42.55.

Last year, Arop, alongside women’s shot putter Sarah Mitton, were the only Canadians to make it to the Diamond League Final in Zurich, where they both finished in third place.

Arop came into Friday’s race ranked second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings, trailing behind Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi. While Arop had not yet confirmed his spot in the Final, his standing in the rankings positioned him well for qualification.

The upcoming 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final is scheduled for September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.

In the men’s 200m event, reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo from Botswana emerged victorious with a time of 19.87 seconds. South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile took second place in 19.98 seconds, followed by Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba in third with a time of 20.14 seconds.

On the women’s side, American Kayla White claimed the 200m title with a time of 22.18 seconds. A close finish saw Great Britain’s Amy Hunt narrowly beating Nigeria’s Favour Ofili for second and third place, both clocking in at 22.32 seconds. Jamaican athlete Shericka Jackson, a two-time women’s world champion, suffered an injury during the race and had to be assisted off the track in a wheelchair.
