“Canadian Found Safe After Nepal Floods; Aid Sent”

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has confirmed the safe discovery of one Canadian citizen or permanent resident among the 30 individuals who went missing following the devastating floods in Nepal’s border area with China. The person had been unreachable due to communication disruptions but managed to establish contact on Tuesday.

The flash floods occurred a week ago when a glacier collapsed in the Himalayan border region between Nepal and China. The catastrophe resulted in over 1,100 fatalities and left over 3,900 individuals unaccounted for. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry reports that 590 foreign nationals from 39 different countries are still missing.

In response to the crisis, Canada will be dispatching more than 18,000 emergency supplies from the Canadian Red Cross reserves to the affected region, in addition to the $5 million humanitarian aid already committed by Ottawa.
